Release of the Interim ACT Skills Needs List 2019
Skills Canberra has released the Interim ACT Skills Needs List 2019 (3.39MB XLSX) or (338KB PDF). This is an update of the existing ACT Skills Needs List, including 15 new qualifications that have superseded 16 of the qualifications previously published. The List also includes 2 new qualifications from the February 2019 Skilled Capital Release.
A review of the ACT Skills Needs List will be undertaken later in 2019 to generate the Skills Needs List 2020. Stakeholders will be provided the opportunity to provide feedback on a draft later in the year.
The ACT Skills Needs List identifies the skills needs within the ACT. This enables the ACT Government to better target funding for training in order to develop a productive and highly skilled workforce which contributes to the ACT’s economic future.
The ACT Skills Needs List directly informs ACT funding priorities at a qualification level for vocational education and training, as well as the level of subsidy provided for a training place in qualifications offered through the Skilled Capital and ACT Australian Apprenticeships (User Choice) initiatives.
With the exception of Certificate II pathways qualifications and Skill Sets, a qualification must be on the ACT Skills Needs List to be funded through Skilled Capital, and only qualifications determined to be in high priority needs areas are funded. The highest priority funding band for User Choice consists entirely of ACT Skills Needs List qualifications. There are many qualifications and occupations not represented on the ACT Skills Needs List with skills requirements in the ACT that the Government will continue to fund through the User Choice initiative.
